Sagar Pur is a populous colony consisting of around 10,000 houses situated on Pankha Road, West Delhi on the way to Janakpuri from Delhi Cantonment. Currently this colony comes under Dwarka (33) Vidhansabha constituency (Earlier it was under Nasirpur constituency (29) which is dissolved due to delimitation) and West Delhi(Earlier it was under Outer Delhi parliamentary constituency which is dissolved due to delimitation).

Sagar Pur is strategically located and very well connected to other colonies of New Delhi such as Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Dwarka Sub City, Delhi Cantonment as well as the Indira Gandhi International Airport & Gurgaon (via Dwarka Sub City).
Sagar Pur was always been crucial to active politics since this colony was made three decades back. In 1993, when Delhi held its first state election for the 70 MLA seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the Indian National Congress party by grabbing 49 seats. Mr. Vinod Kumar Sharma was the first MLA who got elected from Nasirpur Constituency on BJP seat. But in following years, Congress has won three consecutive elections in 1998, 2003 & 2008. Currently this seat has just filled (as per by-election result on 17 September, 2009) by Mr Pradyumn Rajput from BJP, beaten Ms Tilotma Chaudhary of Congress by more than 11,000 votes, as the previous MLA from Congress Party Mr. Mahabal Mishra got elected to Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from West Delhi in General Election 2009. MCD councillor from this area (main sagarpur) is Mrs. Usha Gupta from Congress party.
Although its a small colony but people from different parts of India live here. Population density mainly consist of people from Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
This colony was unauthorized in its earlier stages, as it was made on the agricultural land of Nasirpur & Dabri villages. Parts of this colony have affluent & influential people with it.Late Sh. Ram Kumar Yadav was a very renowned personality of the area. Yadav Ice depot situated on Sagarpur-Kailash Puri Road is a important location of the area. Although Slowly but it is now becoming an education hub / student colony as some of the engineering & professional colleges (affiliated to I.P. University or HRD ministry) like Hindustan College, IITM, IETE, MERI etc has started their sessions in D-Block Janakpuri Institutional area which is exactly opposite to this place on Pankha Road. But due to unavailability of hostels seats, students of these colleges are staying in this colony as tenants.
Earning from tenants has become an additional source of income of households in main parts of this colony.
